Plantar fasciitis: Code M72.2 will no longer be used for plantar fasciitis. The condition has been divided into the following more specific codes:

  • M67.A01 – Plantar fasciitis, right foot
  • M67.A02 – Plantar fasciitis, left foot
  • M67.A09 – Plantar fasciitis, unspecified foot

Fascial fibromatosis: Code M72.2 will remain associated with fascial fibromatosis and has been divided into the following more specific options:

  • M72.20 – Plantar fascial fibromatosis, unspecified foot
  • M72.21 – Plantar fascial fibromatosis, right foot
  • M72.22 – Plantar fascial fibromatosis, left foot

Reporting R26.2 and R26.81 together: Codes R26.2 (difficulty walking, not elsewhere classified) and R26.81 (unsteadiness on feet) may now be reported together when both conditions are present. Previously, an Excludes1 note prevented the two codes from being billed together.

Diagnosis pointing: Always link each service line to the appropriate diagnosis code when submitting claims. Accurate diagnosis pointing can support reimbursement, particularly for re-examinations.
